I want to be able to depict the student life at Westminster progressing from the 1950s to present, drawing parallels between the culture then and now. How has it changed? How has it stayed the same? How can I show this using color and deconstruction and layers, etc.? I'll recreate a dance at Westminster referencing pictures from early yearbooks, while also using the more current to contrast the social change, hopefully conveying the similarities as well as the differences. I also want to ask the older faculty questions about what changes they've seen in the mindsets of the students. The yearbooks are an important glimpse into life as a student, however, the older newspapers will provide an outsider's perspective and another layer to add to the composition. I want to use only black and white pencil drawing for the older pictures to emphasize the passage of time. Keeping with this idea, I want to use a lot of bright, vibrant painting for the more recent pictures. While I do want the idea to be abstract, I don't want to try to weave together absolute deconstructed prom dress chaos either. In order to better unify the idea, I want the composition to be a circle, in order to highlight the circular nature of time. A lack of sharp edges or endings will hopefully imply the uniformity of student culture.
